Part of a land grant settled in 1763, Glens Falls grew up around the 40-foot falls on the Hudson River, a site known to the indigenous population of Mohawk Indians as Chepontuc, “a difficult place to get around.” The village was destroyed by the British in 1780 and resettled in 1788 by Col.
